Importing your Secrets 3 data
Secrets 4 uses a completely new storage format that's not compatible with previous versions. When upgrading to Secrets 4 you should export your data from Secrets 3 first, and then import it in Secrets 4. The best format to do so using Secrets Plaintext Export Format (SPEF).
Exporting to SPEF
On a Mac:
- Open and unlock Secrets.
- Choose File -> Export… from the menu bar.
- Make sure "All items" is selected.
- Choose a location to save the file and click "Save".
On an iOS device:
- Open and unlock Secrets.
- Open the app's Settings.
- Choose Import/Export and then "Secrets Plaintext Export Format (SPEF)" under the Export section.
Secrets will ask for your passphrase and export your data.
Importing an SPEF file
Once you have exported the file you can import it to Secrets 4.
On a Mac:
- Open and unlock Secrets.
- Choose File -> Import… from the menu bar.
- Choose the first option: "Secrets .spef"
- Click continue and follow the steps to finish the import.
On an iOS device:
- Open and unlock Secrets.
- Tap the ••• button
- Tap Import and then "Secrets (.spef)"
- Follow the steps to choose your previously exported file and finish the import.
Once you have imported your data, be sure to delete the exported file. Its contents are not encrypted.
