Sharing your secrets
Any iCloud vault can be shared with other Secrets users. When you share an iCloud vault with others, any changes made by you or any other vault member will automatically sync to everyone else.
You can have up to 10 users sharing a vault.
If you're interested in learning the security details of shared vaults you should check the "Cloud Storage" section in the "Security Design" page.
Sharing a vault
To share an iCloud vault:
- Open the application's settings.
- Long press/right-click on the iCloud vault you want to share.
- Tap/click the ••• button at the bottom left and choose share.
As the vault owner, you can always stop sharing your vaults. When you do so, syncing will automatically stop, and all members will be removed. However, shared vaults are not automatically removed from each member's devices.
Inviting users
Once sharing is enabled for a vault, you can invite other users to become members of that vault.
On the vault's detail view:
- Select the "Invite" option.
- Type their name/username on the search field.
- Select the user from the search results.
- Tap/click invite the invite button.
When inviting an existing Secrets user, ensure that you know their Secrets username and verify that it matches to avoid unintendedly inviting someone else.
Alternatively, you can also invite someone else via email, even if they are not a Secrets user yet.
- Select the "Invite" option.
- Type the e-mail on the search field.
- Tap/click the "Invite e-mail" button.
When following the above steps, an invite link will be generated, and you'll be asked to share it with your invitee. You can do so via email, iMessage, WhatsApp, etc.
Accepting an invite
When you open an invite link to a shared vault, a confirmation dialog will appear. After confirming, you'll automatically join the shared vault.
If you don't have Secrets installed on that device yet, you'll be prompted to install it. After installation, you should open the same link again.
Finally, if you were not a Secrets user at the time the invite was created, you'll be a member of the shared vault but in a "waiting access" state. You should inform the vault owner that you've joined, and they will be able to grant you access by:
- Opening the vault's details.
- Tapping/clicking on your user.
- Tapping/clicking on "Grant Access".
Removing a member
As the owner of a vault, you can also remove any current members by following these steps:
- Open the vault's details.
- Tap/click on the member you want to remove.
- Tap/click on "Remove".
This will stop sharing the vault with the selected user. While the local copy of the vault will not be automatically removed from that member's devices, any new changes will not be synced.
